Okay, where did this summer go? Wasn’t it June 1st about 15 seconds ago? I have no tan (which may not be a bad thing) and made it to the neighbourhood pool exactly once. Given September’s weather forecast, it looks like I’ll have opportunities to swim over the next few weeks before the pool closes and leaves fly.
I was amazingly nominated twice in the same day for the Liebster Award and I’ve spent a lot of time working on my post, but the week has gotten away from me so I haven’t yet finished. It’s a work in progress that will be posted this week.
This was a super busy, but good week. Monday I was back at work after 6 1/2 days vacation. Honestly, I did not want to go back, but now that I’m there and am settled in to the new office, it isn’t so bad. Granted, I’d be happier if we won the lottery and I never had to work again, but if I have to grind it out from 8 to 5 I am grateful to be working for this particular company.
It truly felt like back to school week this week. My new work location reminds me of a new classroom or school, and I’m now so much closer to home and can walk to work! What a positive impact this will have on my life. My office is between 1.2 and 1.3 miles from home (depending on whether I cut through the Costco parking lot), so it’s about 20-22 minutes. A bit slower in the morning because I don’t want to get all sweaty, and tougher on the way home because it’s uphill. I quickly discovered that there’s no point in labouring over my hair in the morning because the humidity puts back all of the wave that I so carefully blow out. But in just a few days I recognize that there are going to be positive mental and physical impacts. I’m adding about 5,000 steps, and working out a lot of stuff in my head. No more yelling at other drivers as I sit in Atlanta traffic! It’s good all around.
Back to School week also meant that I met with my trainer on Tuesday & Thursday mornings (still can’t lift my arms, thank you very much, Jamie), and even ran on Saturday. I really feel like I dogged it during the run. Funny how the first mile just feels like running through sludge, then once I let my mind wander the steps go by without any thought. We have a 5k in 2 weeks and I’m so far from ready but it’s not like I’ll ever be in a position to win anything. It’s all about the t-shirt, and in the next case, free entry to our city’s arts & crafts festive.
The majority of my time this week has been spent on a sewing project. In a moment of madness I signed up for a sewing challenge. There’s no entry fee so it’s not like I have skin in the game, but I’m just a tiny bit competitive. I’ve been watching too much Great British Sewing Bee because I reckoned I could just breeze through the first project, which I did not. I completed the project yesterday and while I’m happy with the final outcome, I don’t think it’s worthy of Round Two.
Has anyone else noticed how quickly we’re losing daylight? The sun doesn’t come up until 7:15 and sets about 12 hours later. Again, the summer has just gone too fast!
Happy Labour Day. Happy Labor Day. Happy September!
