Leap Year

When I was in school we had Sadie Hawkins shags on February 29th. (I think shag is a Canadian term … a dance right after school, but before dinner.) It was the one day when girls could ask the boys to dances. I think it gave us girls the chance to experience the fear and trepidation that comes along with asking someone out. I was shy so don’t think I ever asked anyone to do anything with me.

Do you think girls now feel the same fear we did about asking boys out?

Periodontist … Ugh

On Tuesday I went for my quarterly teeth cleaning (yes, quarterly). The hygienist sent me down for a more thorough exam with the dentist, and as a result, today I get to have osseous surgery. If you don’t know what that is, you don’t want to know. Basically, it’s what they do when all of your flossing and brushing isn’t working and they have to do a super duper deep cleaning. All I can say is, thank God for dentists that will give you sedatives, and for nitrous oxide, or as my childhood dentist called it, the happy nose. And by the way, you take the sedatives in advance so right now I’m about ready to say Goodnight.

Kids, brush and floss. Seriously. Every day.

Kennel Quilts

I haven’t been sewing much for myself this month because I discovered a contest sponsored by Bernina sewing machines. Make a kennel quilt to fit a pet kennel (12″ x 18″), post it, and donate the quilt to an animal rescue group. Since my sewing goals for this month included improving my ability to sew straight lines, and to top stitch, this project was right up my alley. I’m working on a detailed blog post for those who are interested and will add the link to a future post. On Saturday I dropped off ten quilts for wee puppies and kittens. Hope they feel the huge amounts of love that was sewn in with the batting!

Spring is coming!

We had a glorious spring weekend here in Atlanta. Time to start thinking about gardening! Yesterday morning I pulled out the shovel for the first time in months, and dug up and discarded a hybrid tea rose that had the most breathtaking scent, but it was too lanky and was constantly infected with black spot, and occasionally fungus. It needed to go last year, but once it buds out I can’t dig it up because I’ll feel like a murderer. Better to do it quickly now, while the branches were still bare.

And yesterday I really noticed that the days are getting longer. I started preparing dinner at what seemed like a reasonable time, but it was close to 7:30 by the time we sat down. Then I noticed that the timers on the living room light are coming on about an hour too early.

Don’t you love it when we have more daylight?

Happy week everyone. Liquid diet for me for a few days 🙂
