Spring is here! A season of hope, rebirth and renewal … And not just in the Biblical sense. Is anyone unhappy to have more sunlight, plants peeking out of the soil, and trees showing a hint of green?

Spring came early here, and with it the pollen. I’m still suffering (this was a brutal week allergy-wise), and now those majestic Georgia Pines are dropping clouds of green. All we need is one good rain to get us through this. Atlanta meteorologists promised rain all week and it never materialized. Once again, proof that weather is God’s little joke.

New Way of Eating

I’m 9 weeks into the Naturally Slim program and have lost over 13 pounds! On Friday I tried on a pair of jeans that were unwearably tight (I could close the zip, but that was about it) and they fit! I kept this particular pair of jeans during the big Marie Kondo clear out last April because I truly like the fabric and the cut. So glad I did!

The official program ends next weekend and I’ll continue on after that. This truly feels like it’s not a diet – we can eat this way forever. (G has fully embraced it too and he’s down at least 15 pounds, but then he’s also doing major cardio 40 minutes a day.) Honestly, I thought I would never, ever be able to lose weight. There were years of trying to do the what I thought was the right thing, and never seeing any positive results. This whole process has been just a real education and I’m happy when I dress in the morning. Don’t get me wrong, I still have a long way to go, but damn it feels good to see positive progress!

A Big Decision

We’ve looked at houses in Atlanta for 5 years now. I don’t believe I’m exaggerating when I say that I’ve looked at 200 + homes. Big houses, little houses, expensive houses, gut jobs. I believe we saw the final 4 yesterday. One was fantastic – like ‘I don’t deserve a house like this’ beautiful. But it wasn’t perfect, and it was really at the top of our budget. Plus, a big part of me doesn’t want to get into an enormous mortgage because there’s just too much uncertainty in the world right now.

So yesterday, after viewing these 4, we decided ‘no more.’. We’re going to have a contractor come in and redo the kitchen, including knocking out the wall to the dining room. I’m so excited because I’ll have more light for when I’m cooking or eating! Our existing townhouse will still not tick every box, but with Atlanta’s traffic getting worse, the walking commute outweighs so many things I want in a house. Why have a screened porch and big garden if that means an extra 90 minutes a day in the car?

Now G and I will have the acrimonious period of making decisions. Wish we could get the Property Brothers to come down and referree!

How was your week?

  1. Wow – some amazing progress on so many fronts! Congrats on the nutritional changes, I’m sure that feels good.

You won’t regret keeping your commute short. We’ve done it both ways and swore I would never do a long commute again. (During the worst of the remodel treat yourself to a hotel or airbnb using some of that mortgage money you’ve saved yourself!)
